7th Annual "Heads Held High" Walk on
Saturday, October 3, 2009
BABIS hosted the 7th Annual "Heads Held High" Walk on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at Jamaica Pond in Jamaica Plain. Despite a day of rain, temperatures were mild, and 160 intrepid survivors/family members/friends came to the walk. Tents donated by Spaulding Rehab. Hospital helped keep most folks dry while coffee/muffins donated by City Feed and Supply, Jamaica Plain and lunch donated by UNOS warmed and sustained the attendees. Dr. Neal McGrath, Clinical Neuropsychologist, Sports Concussion New England was this year's Honorary Chair and spoke about the importance of recovery over time and the need for ongoing support and connection with other survivors/family members. The annual raffle helped raise significant monies for BABIS and for the plan of donating a portion to a program geared specifically to helping keep our youth safe and aware of the dangers of risky behaviors. As we all know, prevention is the only true cure for brain injury.
The BABIS Walk Planning Committee would like to thank all those who participated in the walk and helped raise money for BABIS. If you were planning to attend but were unable to, we do have quite a lot of leftover long-sleeve t-shirts which we are still hoping to sell as the other primary fund-raising activity for the walk. BABIS will be selling t-shirts at the Nov. 7th meeting at Spaulding Rehab. Hospital, but the planners would be happy to mail t-shirts to individuals who are unable to come to that meeting but would still like to have a t-shirt. Please call Sally Johnson at 617-573-2539 to ask about sizes and give addresses. Checks should be made out to BABIS, for $12. per shirt.
